DESIGN

Design means different things to different people, to me it traverses the broad range of how to represent ideas through visual communication. Although I would use design, as most people do, as a way of thinking through my own thoughts, it was only later in life that I developed the skills to represent ideas through visual communication that others could understand.

Today I use Design to represent systems (technological, hierarchal), draft structural plans (architectural, physical), tailor interactions (user interface, layout), and apply decoration (set design, painting).
Satellite Receiver TV Stand

Recycling a coffee table, we mounted the satellite dishes to either side. Although the windows are southern facing, we were not allowed to mount the dishes outside the building. We created a system that utilizes the exact dimensions of the available area to aim through the aluminum framed windows.
Home Cinema Workstation

We allways wanted to live in a movie theater, or at least work in one. Now we have both. An art deco cinema paintjob to the bedroom, and an installed 6"x4.5" cinema screen, lit by a first generation LCD projector, gives us a great place to watch DVDs, and work on visualization algorithyms.

Multiple Source Media Broadcast Workflow

Design also extends to business and production organization. I have created documentation and graphic representation of dozens of successful process implementations, from managerial workflow, to high volume network service design.

Application User Interface

User Interface design tends to fall into one of two camps: form over function or function over form. I believe that grouping relevant functionality is more important than creating a paradymn. My user interface design concentrates on creating mechanisms based on thought flow; a process should proceed in the way that the user thinks through the process.

The Green Ceiling Fan

Custom ceiling fans are expensive; we needed a green ceiling fan for a green room. I have a good friend who makes stained glass light fixtures. So, we bought a $19 ceiling fan, disassembled and painted it (the correct colors), and re-assembled it with a dodecahedron design fixture, created by Marty Kahn.

This WebSite

Have you seen this web site? I actually have spent much more time developing web server scripts and backend mechanisms than front end HTML, but I do all of my coding by hand, and with the formatting of a programmer.

SpotGuide Directory

Borrowing on the web site portal concept, SpotMagic launched the SpotGuide to direct users to SpotMedia content.
