Kona-side, Kailua town

Caught up in the whirlwind... A couple of weeks ago, I noticed a post up on Tribe promoting an all day event Kona-side. We haven't played much on the Kona side of the island, but now we have some good friends living over there, so we've been making an effort to dredge up the Kona scene, and begin to look to it for more than just the monthly shopping trip. So, I fired off an email to the Promoter to see if they would be interested in my VJing talents.

The gig was this past Friday; sorry I didn't post anything before hand (not that I have any local readers) but the location was to stay undisclosed until the day of, and I wasn't really sure of what I was getting myself into. Being totally ignorant of the Kona-side scene, and having never met anyone involved, except for online, I was treating it like what it was: an internet hook-up! Maybe I was a bit too cautious; maybe the promoter was a bit too cautious. Because, while there was advertisement, and the eventually disclosed location was really good (the old Kona Airport pavilion) the all-day event (I VJed from 1pm to 9pm) was poorly attended.

The setup was really great, it sounded great, the DJs were great. The location, the old airport pavilion, is a great open air space. But, nobody showed up. Most of the day there were more people standing in the parking lot than inside. And it was daylight for most of it, so I spent a lot of time projecting black and white, just to be visible. And the wind kept blowing down the screens... Sigh...

Well, it turns out that the same guy promoting that event was presenting DJ Garth from San Francisco, at a Kona-side club, the next night, last night. So, he asks if I want to project for that gig as well. Duh, YEAH! So, after an 8 hour gig on Friday, we schlepped our way back to Kona-side, for another 4 and a half hour gig, Saturday night.

Definitely worth it. The Mixx Bistro is obviously a very "mixed" bar. The "bar" is just a little foyer to the expansive patio. It was a cloudless night, and the Js were setup on a raised section above the dance floor, and I was projecting behind them. The first DJ, Sherman (Kona/Seattle) was really good, I liked his grooves, and then Garth came on and stepped it up four or five notches! While I may have felt a little ignored during the run (only one person offered to buy me a drink, event though a dozen asked me what Garth was drinking,) the feedback afterward made up for it.

We met some new people, made some connections, stirred up some buzz. Fun stuff!

The current plan says that Mr. T and I are not making the trek to volleyball tomorrow. You see, the final piece in our new bedroom/addition to the house project is the installation of a counter-top/built-in desk, and we were finally able to afford the final materials (whew) this last week. So, we are going to keep the 10 hours for ourselves, tomorrow. Bob, I believe, will be there with the Jeep (that's another playlist I have to do!)

Fear not, however; the current plan says that the Tolver and I are going to be there for your birthday the following Saturday. The job that he has been working in Leilani requires another trip over in the truck, so that is planned for your big day. Bob, unfortunately, has other plans that day. However, because Dr. Daddy Sir will not be joining us, Tolver and I have the opportunity to stay later, and enjoy your celebration of specialness.

As the above, refers the the current plan (and here's where it "starts" getting complicated, but don't blame me, you who invoked the word "worromot") , the variability of the future suggests that I may have a new laptop by your birthday. The overall combination of circumstance would let me "spin" your party.

To answer your initial query: NO, there will be no CDs for you tomorrow. Impatient boys don't get their birthday presents early. Tolver will pick me up from volleyball, and we will get to your place at a reasonable time, and make the music happen. I may even be able to provide my lightshow.

Kiss Kiss,
reese

Wig Volleyball 2007 Postgame

Wow that was fun.

So we got to DJ all ten hours of Wig Volleyball, plus VJ after dark. Definately our best party on the island so far, and a nice way to finish our first year here. Thank you to everyone who came out and showed their appreciation of the Banana Boyz and their farm. And to everyone who reads our blog: The Banana Boy'z Isle of You farm is the place to come visit! http://isleofyou-hawaii.com

Here are the early pictures; with more to come.
