Driving...

We make the trip to one port or the other, east or west, Puna/Hilo or Kailua-Kona, sometimes many times in a week. My last three days consisted of:
  • Saturday up at 6am, cut and process 250 flowerheads, load the Jeep, on the road by 11am and drive to Puna-side to deliver them (total drive time with stops: 2 hours 30 minutes.) Played volleyball for 5 hours, then drove home (another 1 hour 45 minutes.)
  • Sunday slower start, but still had to get both the Jeep and the Jetta cleaned up, and vaccuumed, before we took off in the car for Puna-side again. This time only to Kea'au (drive time: 1 hour 20 minutes) for potluck and movienight with the boys. (Another 1 hour and 20 minutes to get home.)
  • Monday on the road by 8am, headed Kona-side this time for errands and shopping. We made it home by 3, so I guess it was a 7 hour round trip, with an hour each at the doctor's office, Walmart, Safeway, and Costco.

Now, Bob will take the car back Puna-side to Hilo tomorrow. Tolver and I are going to Kailua-Kona again on Wednesday. Bob delivers flowers, and goes to the gym Puna-side on Thursday. Friday we all get to stay home, but Saturday it starts all over again...

Driving can be very meditative, but sometimes it is an exhaustive fight to keep from getting hypnotized to sleep.

Tar Baby

People are people, and they are just as screwed up here as they are back there. No need to go into details, but suffice to say that our 'Age Peer Group' has a set of problems that we just have to roll our eyes at. And our 'Emotional Peer Group' doesn't party as much as we are used to. (Time to build some bridges.) So it looks like the Island is going to give us a slower lifestyle, but in the end analysis it is still a lot better than where we were headed back there.
Don't get us wrong, we dearly loved living in San Francisco, and we miss our friends back there almost more than we can stand, sometimes. But the life we have built for ourselves here is ultimately more secure and satisfying. Back there we were just 'keeping the party going', while here we are 'creating beauty in paradise' with each flower plant we put into the ground.
Time to grow up we suppose, we can't party forever and still live to a happy old age. When did THAT happen? We were supposed to stay 21 forever and the party was supposed to never end. But at least we survived with all our fingers and toes, and we have the memories. Everybody should be so lucky.

Apology for post delinquency

Sorry everyone. You would think with how busy we have been, and how little time that we have had for the compuer, that at least we would have more of the room completed. We have put up the siding on that wall from the last post, but haven't gotten to any more. Tolver's thumb was broken, playing volleyball, and that sort of slowed things down. I guess that I have been so busy just taking up some of the slack and attending my own duties around the farm.

I had a bout of depression earlier in the week, with no real reason. It felt very much like my chemistry was off, as it had come on very gradually over a couple of weeks, but eventually got almost overwhelming. So I looked up "vitamin deficency" +"depression" and found the suggestion that vitamin B5, along with the other Bs deficency could be effecting my mood. We take a multi every morning, but I added a "Super B Complex" on Tuesday, (the two together still only provide 100% B5, as each only provide 50%) and like magic, I feel better, but my pee has turned flourecent green.

What do you think? Was it the vitamin supplement, or just that I had improved my outlook by actively doing something for myself? hmmmm (OMG, remember "things that make you go hmmmm"?)

Our Building Project part 2

We are making more progress on our new room. After a coat of paint

the wall that used to have a window, is now just a wall. Next, we got started framing in the east wall of the carport,

And before we knew it, it was a new wall!

Then we came around to the front side of the house, framed in the wall, and inserted the old window into its new location.

Pretty satisfying work. Tomorrow we drive to town to pick up more supplies. The trickiest work is yet to come, as we round the corner and create the inner wall dividing what used to be the carport in half. The next wall will include a regular door and a sliding glass door. Stay tuned!

A LOVE STORY

This 80 year old woman was arrested for shop lifting.
When she went before the judge he asked her,
"What did you steal?" She replied, "A can of peaches."

The judge then asked her why she had stolen the can of peaches and she
replied that she was hungry.

The judge then asked her how many peaches were in the can.

She replied 6.

The judge then said, "I will then give you 6 days in jail."

Before the judge could actually pronounce the punishment, the woman's
husband spoke up and asked the judge if he could say something.

The judge said, "What is it?"

The husband said, "She also stole a can of peas."

Sorry that I have been so remiss in publishing lately... we've been very busy lately. I promise more to come on our building project. Stay tuned!
