Road to the Sea Beach... again...

It's the beach that we can see from our living room window; about 10 miles downhill. It's a 4-wheel drive event. No puny tourist vehicle will make the trip, and it is too undeveloped to attract many locals.

On one side is a barely swimable, black sand covering green sand beach (every footprint is green sand under black beach top), on the other side is a calm tide pool with regular soft wave injections. Just Perfect.

As we arrive somebody else is often just leaving, and as we leave somebody else just arrives. Karmic privacy. In one of the most sought out tourists destinations on the planet we find a public beach with so little traffic as to be our own private beach, often with not so much as a boat on the horizon for the few hours we spend there each week. Truly paradise.

We play in the surf, getting to be stronger swimmers every time we go. We explore the tide pool, getting to know the water life better. Coral toughens up our skin. The ocean always wins, as we are tossed about like leaves in a whirlwind. Today I have 3 cuts on my foot from rocks in the surf, 2 scrapes on my thigh from coral, and board-burn on my belly from the boogie-board we play in the surf with. It's a small price to pay for such fun returned. I spent 11 years sitting behind a computer screen getting soft, and I expect to spend the next 40 letting the island surf toughen me up. I was slowly dying back there in San Francisco and didn't even know it, now here in Hawai`i I have reason to live to be twice as old as I am now.

something but flowers

So I looked at my blog this morning and realized that another 15 days had gone by since I wrote anything here... sigh... then I noticed the google ad at the side of the page :

"Don't go to Hawaii?! It will stifle your online persona!

For some reason I seem to be much more "into" working the flower farm than sitting at the computer... yeah!

On Thursday we pick flowers for market... then we head out for the beach! O yeah, thats another reason to be away from the computer! hee hee heee

party season, isn't it...

For many years we participated in the party season that spanned the end of May through mid September in San Francisco. There's something going on there every weekend during the summer from street fairs to leather bears! So far the party has been a bit far inbetween, here on the island. A lot of what fun is is made ourselves, and I am pretty good at having a good time on my own; I would like to find more here at which to apply myself.

We got to participate in a public party thrown by a fire dance troupe trying to make enough money to go to Burning Man this year. I actually invited myself, on the advice that they would appreciate my projector, and got a very enthusiastic response to the idea of my showing up and being the VJ. So I showed up with my gear and while warming up the video, I turned on some music to help with sound check, but then the sound guy took off and I ended up being the DJ for 2 hours because nobody else knew how to hook into the guy's amp. Now I love getting to be DJ, when I've had a chance to prepare a playlist, at least! Two hours of off the cuff music was harried but rewarding.

I continued to do visualization once the other DJs took over, and towards the end of the fire dancer's performance some of them wanted to do shadow dancing between my projected visualization and the screen. The effect was really cool, as I was able to see the fire dancers through the screen with the viz and the shadow dancers on top.

That was Friday night, and afterwards we went down to the cliffs at the ocean and watched the ocean at night; even more cool.

Today was July the 4th, and we went to Kalani for the party. It was great to finally get to see the place. It is quite beautiful, and literally right across the red road from the ocean. We didn't stay long though, my travelling companions were in fuddy-duddy mode.

My favorite blogger had some harsh words for the holiday
Proceed at your own risk
maybe that has something to do with the general mood today... sigh.

hugs
