Reality TV show idea #2 (no stealing!)

Backstage at a play/live production, filming the interactions/reactions of the cast as they perform the same show night after night. The first couple of episodes would could show auditions, casting and cast introductions. Segments or whole episodes could be produced around the stagecraft developement and rehearsal mechanics. But the real hook is in what happens during an actual performance, backstage. Where the actors, production assistants, and crew deal with each other's peculiarities and personalities.

Hmmmm. Maybe its time to move to hollywood and sell ideas...

the funniest thing passed this week

I mena no BIG promises but I thought it was funny...
Probably NSFW, but really maybe its made for work... I can't really put a judgement call on that... I'm mean there are no penises hanging out or that sort of thing, but they do say penis, well cock actually... o just get over it...

its Quicktime, so I'm probably not going to take the time to convert it and post it on ReeseTV

Winter Solstice and the House of the Golden Bull

The Winter Solstice passes this week. Like it was when I was a child with Xmas, the winter Solstice tends to encompass the week before and after the actual day. This year, the annual solstice party that we attend will actually be on Xmas Eve, a couple of days after the solstice event. This will be my tenth anniversary solstice with the house of the Golden Bull, and that has got me to reflect on my first solstice with Marty and the house. I do remember meeting Marty at my first solstice, in 1996, but I mostly remember meeting the house. You see, I believe that memory can work both ways; from the past, and from the future; and at that first meeting I felt as comfortable at the house as though it was just another room in my own home. So, I knew I would be spending a lot of time there. I was right. But first I'd like to talk about that first Solstice party.
We had been in San Francisco for just over a year, and I was beginning to be very secure in my new career, but I didn't feel that I had yet found my place. Tolver, having found the house a few weeks before, came home with an invite to this big party happening there for the solstice. Without really knowing what we were in for we showed up. At the door, we were each handed a paper bag into which all of our clothes were to go during the party. Right at that moment I had to make a decision that would change my life completely; so I put aside all of my body image insecurities and undressed. For those of you who have never been to such an event, you probably understand when I admit to having never been in a place full of naked people before; it was frightning, trilling, disgusting, exciting, it made me feel vulnerable and unsure, curious and adventuresome, all at the same time. But most importantly it was equalizing. As the house filled (to a crowd of over 300 that night) I found joy in being average. It was overwhelming. When seen au natural everyone becomes the same as well as unique.

Back then, the house hosted a weekly gathering on Tuesday, as well, and the Tuesday following the Solstice Party was Xmas day. Tolver and I went to enjoy the hottub and escape the Xmas spirit, and found ourselves two of about twelve people that showed up that night. It was very family, and I believe all twelve of those people are still a part of my circle of friends. I felt the house take me in, and I became a part of the house. Since then I have assisted in the hosting of gatherings and parties there, sometimes as often as every weekend. Marty has become one of the best friends that I have ever had. I have also contributed my technical skills to the house, and with Marty, built the computers and media systems for the house, wired and wireless networking, and was even there the day the new carpet went in to lay wires under it. The house has been the center of my social life, the people that I have met there have been from all walks of life, and I feel that I learn something about the world and myself almost every time I am there.

There are many gatherings held at the house, but the Winter Solstice remains my favorite. Winter Solstice has come to mean to me a time of re-birth, a chance to start new, but also, and as importantly, a chance to end what was.

ReeseTV bandwidth...

It has come to my attention that I have a couple of hurdles to cross yet with the implementation of ReeseTV. One, as expected, is bandwidth. We all need more bandwidth. Actually our servers have enough bandwidth to handle most of the load except for some of the larger files. I have tried to keep the streaming requirements down on the video files, but I am having some problems with the Flash animations.

While Flash can be a very light-weight delivery mechanism, many of the more interesting ones are still 3-7mb. ReeseTV uses the Windows Media Player control on its web page for rendering the playlist. WMP will stream WMVs perfectly, however its support for Flash (swf) is maybe not so complete. I have noted that the "pre-loaders" on most flash do not work (the little bar indicating how much you have to download before you can start playing), so it can be hard to tell if it is loading, broken, or just stuck. Put that together with slow loading, and most people will get frustrated and move on...

So, I'll be working on that this week. Until then, you will just have to wait and see what will happen! On a standard DSL it shouldn't take more than 3 minutes for any one animation to load.

Onward through the fog.

the Relationship Textbook

write write write.
I'm adding a new section to the manifesto (yeah, yeah I know I should fill in some of what is allready there first...) More and more often I have had people tell me that I should be writing about relationships. I believe that I learned an excellent lesson today about relationship dynamics, and its got my juices flowing, at least a little bit. Plus it gives me a chance to get the manifesto back up to the top of the page!

More to come!

The Manifesto

the learning channel

So I'll admit to being a "design tv" junkie, you know Trading Spaces, WYWO and such. I only watch new episodes (gawd, I am bas off, just listen to me... no really I just watch for the cute guys), so I'm watching the new episode of WYWO and the designer is Mark Montano, and Tully walks in and says "that guy has a new show, I caught some of it for you today." I'm like all curious so I flip over to check it out (no its not TIVO, its just the DVR that came with my DishNetwork.) So this new show is called "10 Years Younger", and I was disgusted. Its "What Not To Wear" on steriods, shoved into a half hour. More like "What not To BE". Mark Montano is going to remake your look, to make you better. Ugh!

Well but it got me thinking again about how Tolver and I missed out by not coming up with some TV show idea where the studios would pay us to do what it is that we have fun doing anyways while they film it, and pay us the big bucks. Look at all of the other queer couples that had the right idea: the Mythbuster guys, the Wildboys, etc.

And THAT got my brain going and I came up with a great one for us. We're allways going on about our wonderful 20 year commitment/relationship. And we think we know how to talk the hard talk to other people having trouble with their relationships. We'll come at it from the two different sides. And, we'll be super fierce! Like "girl! you better learn to put up with that everyday of the week, or you are going to be ALONE all your life!"

O well, you had to be here. But, at least it gave me something to write about!

my morning whine

ah, another stress attack last night.
When I come back for my next life, I hope that I will get to be one of my cats. Some cats know that heaven, hell, and purgatiry all exist here on earth. People who were bad to cats, come back as cats that are treated poorly; those that treat their cats as nothing more than houseplants, come back as cats doomed to confinement as black cats in empty white rooms (or vice versa). Treat your cat like royalty and you will become your own cat.
This is the fantasy of the afterlife that I choose to believe, today at least.

another post every day

See discipline... well ok, I guess you also need some imagination...

Always posting more content to ReeseTV. I realize that I don't really have the bandwidth to support it yet, so I am looking into different free content hosting solutions. The Internet Archive's OurMedia.org is looking promising as a repository, but any info from out there will be appreciated.

Reese TV

Announcing the launch of Reese TV!!!

Reese TV will demonstrate a new model for content broadcasting; re-invigorating the consumers desire to "sit back, and see what on."

ehhem.

I've been collecting videos and flash animations off of the web for as long as I can remember. Those that I collect tend towards a certain bent which the people that know me seem to really appreciate. I started "showing" from my collection to fill the gap between StarTrek and SouthPark at a weekly pot-luck, and then was invited to VJ a 7 hour set of "shorts and music" for a friend's birthday. Suddenly, I found myself voracious for new content, and my collection grew and grew. My friends continually ask me, "where do you find it all?"

Well now you can find it all here:
Check out Reese TV

...

OK, well since the 'I quit' blog entry, I have come across several new prospects in my life, so I will once again make a try at the writen diary thing...

One other thing that got me started again is that one of my favorite daily blogs reads also just gave up in the last couple of days. And I can't stand the idea of the blogging art disappearing behind the usualy apathy and short attention span of our society.

So I will make an effort to write a little something daily. Make it part of my morning discipline. At the very least I can use this as a means of describing releases on ReeseTV
