We are online, therefore the internet exists.

this is the first post

So here is my Blog. I don't know what to do with it yet, as I have never had a diary, and have never been much for writing down what I've done. Still, it is appearent that this is the current state of the technology required to upload our thoughts into random access memory. Oh how I will pine for a plug in my head, and an expert system for watching my thoughts and keeping and catagorizing the good ones, and ignoring the garbage, as well as filtering the those thoughts I may not want to make public... hmmm. I guess I've got my work cut out for me, imagining up that reality...

I have set up this server, to provide domain email and web site services for all of my friends who don't want to deal with a "real" company, but have some reason or another for having a presense online. You see, it had come to pass that after the failing of the dot coms I ended up with half a dozen servers and a lot of bandwidth in my own home. Add to this the skills for administering the above noted services, and I had to ask myself, why we were still paying big companies to do the things that I could be doing from home. So, I turned the model around and started serving myself. The goal of having a box that sits in the corner and makes money has been the dream from back in the days of computer BBSing.

You see, in my opinion, using a big company for web services is like going to an over-crowded public school; you cannot expect too much individual attention. This creates a barrier to entry for a casual publisher, who say just wants to keep a simple site and resume online. By providing what amounts to Mom and Pop internet services, I am able to cater to the previously untapped market, as well as those who have had no choice but to use the free-ish services provided by the the various yahoos in Silicon Valley.

more to come...
